The court declined the Public Interest Litigation filed but did agree with the concern of usage of phones by children
On 1st July the Madras High Court refused to entertain public interest litigation. The PIL filed had raised concern over the addiction of children and young adults to online games. The Bench was headed by Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy. The Judges disposed of the petition filed. They declined by holding that the petitioner should first approach the government on the issue. Because it is a matter of policy on which the Court may not have appropriate expertise.
Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee further highlighted courts should be slow in entering such areas. Since it concerns the personal sense of morality of the individual. Rather than the petitioner or the judge or judges concerned. The judges said that undoubtedly when there is some illegal action that is detrimental to the larger public interest. The courts intervene. However, matters like the present one should be left to knowledge and understanding of those representing the people.
