Srinagar. The situation has worsened after fresh snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar. While the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway connecting the Kashmir Valley with other parts of the country had to be closed due to landslides, flights were delayed due to poor visibility in the sky. and then they were also cancelled. Srinagar Airport informed on Wednesday that flights of all airlines have been canceled for today. Passengers will be accommodated in the upcoming scheduled flights. A total of 41 flights have been canceled including skid flights.
Earlier on Wednesday itself, the Srinagar airport had said that it has been snowing continuously since morning. Our snow clearing operation on the runway and apron is working continuously but the visibility is only 400 metres.
Moderate to heavy snowfall in most parts of the valley
On the other hand, a Srinagar official said that most areas of the valley received moderate to heavy snowfall. He said that the higher reaches of the Union Territory received snowfall of about two feet or more. Officials said that Srinagar recorded about eight inches of snowfall till Wednesday morning.
Officials said that continuous work is being done to remove snow from the roads. Snow removal is being done on priority basis in hospitals and other important places. Apart from flights, the snowfall also affected the rail service. Train service between Baramulla and Banihal was suspended on Wednesday morning due to accumulation of snow on railway tracks, officials said. Another official said that apart from snowfall, heavy rains led to stone pelting at some places due to which the 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar highway was closed.
